| Legislative Update - 3/11/03 - Follow-up to those who have legislators on the Appropriations Committee | |||
| I
write to follow up on last night's legislative update on the Governor's
cultural funding proposal because our records show that one (or in several
instances) both of your legislators are on the Appropriations Committee,
which is presently considering these recommendations. Nothing has more influence
on these folks than appeals from their own constituents, so your own advocacy
efforts at this critical point in the process are absolutely essential to
the goals of the Heritage Coalition.
If you haven't contacted your legislator yet to register your opposition to the Governor's proposal to eliminate funding for the several heritage support programs of the Connecticut Humanities Council and the Connecticut Historical Commission, PLEASE DO SO at your earliest convenience. Be sure to send copies of your correspondence to Committee co-chair Senator Toni Harp and Representative Bill Dyson and an additional copy to Representative Shawn Johnston, who has been charged with formulating an alternative cultural funding proposal for the Committee's consideration. A wave of constituent appeals while these deliberations are in progress will immeasurably help our cause. Legislative contact information and background materials are available at the appropriate links above. Sorry to be a pest, but we have a real window of opportunity here and we should take advantage of it. Bruce Fraser |
