| Legislative Update - 2/03/03 | |||
| Our
lobbyists at the Capitol tell us that work is almost complete on a revised
state budget for the current fiscal year and that the House may be asked
to consider that document as early as tomorrow. If you have not yet contacted
legislative leadership to urge continued funding for the Humanities Council's
$1 million Cultural Heritage Development Fund, PLEASE DO SO TODAY.
An emphatic message of support for the CHDF from its hundreds of beneficiaries in the heritage community is essential if threatened major cuts in CURRENT funding for this program are to be prevented. Attached are copies of our January 27th alert with legislative contact information and a CHDF fact sheet. Additional background material on the CHDF is available on a sheltered portion of the Council's website (www.ctculture.org/chdf). Do bcc me on all correspondence, so we can track the effectiveness of our advocacy campaign, and let me know how legislators respond to your advocacy efforts. I'm afraid this won't be the last request we make of you on this matter. Even if the Council's heritage granting programs escape the axe in the legislature's attempts to plug holes in the current budget, we will almost certainly again be under intense scrutiny as next year's budget wends it's way through the Capitol in the next several weeks. In all likelihood this will be a rough ride indeed, so keep your disks drives dry! Bruce Fraser |
