Conservation Concerns: A Guide for Collectors and Curators

ConservationConcernsforweb.jpg

The HRC thanks new Heritage Advisory Committee member Kathleen Craughwell-Varda for writing the following entry. Kathy is a museum curator/consultant with more than twenty-five years experience in the field, and has been an assessor for the Conservation Assessment Program for 16 years. She is currently the Project Manager for Conservation ConneCTion, Connecticut's response to the IMLS "Connecting to Collections" initiative.

Conservation Concerns: A Guide for Collectors and Curators has been answering some of the most commonly asked questions by people responsible for caring for historical collections since it was first published in 1992.

This is one of the best reference books you can buy and here's why:

  • Simple subject headings make it easy to find the topic you're looking for.
  • Information is provided in short, concise articles written by some of the best conservators in the country, and in an easy to understand style.
  • A wide variety of collection types and collection care issues are covered in this one book, ranging from environmental concerns to when an object needs to be examined by a conservator, to storing everything from paintings and photographs to textiles and paintings, and more.

Collection caretakers will find this book one that they will turn to over and over again.
