La Piana Resources

david_la_piana.jpgLa Piana Consulting, founded in 1998, is a for-profit firm dedicated to strengthening nonprofits and foundations. Their mission is to improve leadership and management practices throughout the sector for greater social impact.

If you really want the latest thinking on strategies - what they are, how effective strategies differ from what we *think* of as strategies, and how to inspire dynamic strategic thought in your museum, www.lapiana.org a great place to begin

Once you're looking at the site, sign up for David's blog (his thoughts on the "next big thing in the future of nonprofit management and governance") and the La Piana quarterly e-newsletters. The firm also does workshops around the country on emerging nonprofit management topics including strategy, leadership, governance, collaboration and partnerships, and human resources management with venues listed on the Web site.

The Research & Publications section offers books (you've got to buy them) and a whole bunch of free information in PDF format. Topics range from collaboration (such as the complete text of La Piana's study, "Beyond Collaboration: Strategic Restructuring for Nonprofit Organizations," published by the National Center for Nonprofit Boards in 1997), to monographs on La Piana research and nonprofit sector trends.
